Meta has released an updated process for its 3D avatar creation in both Facebook and Messenger, which will enable people to use their custom avatars in Instagram Stories as well as Instagram DMs.
Last year, Meta overhauled Avatars in VR to make them more humanlike, expressive and customisable. Meta has now added new facial shapes and assistive devices for people with disabilities. Additionally, the tech giant will also be adding limited-time shirts for NFL fans to outfit their avatars.
More Options Than Ever
Meta has improved the look of avatars with subtly adjusted facial shapes and tweaked skin shade. Here’s an example of the same avatar in April vs Today:
As seen in the image above, Meta’s new 3D avatars feature more refined characteristics and customisation options to make them look more like the people they represent in real life.
Meta will also be adding more inclusive customisation features such as:
- Cochlear implants
- Hearing aids
- Wheelchairs
New 3D Avatars Rolling Out
The new 3D Avatars will be rolling out across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger to people in the United States, Mexico, Canada and more. Users will be able to show up as their avatars in their Facebook profile picture, comments, stickers, stories and more. This will be the first time any of Meta’s avatars will be available on Instagram.
