According to the Financial Times, Instagram creators that are making money using Reels have had their payouts slashed in recent weeks with target metrics for monetization increased notably. Payments are down as much as 70% per view; videos need millions more views in order for creators to get paid.
Instagram’s Reels Play Bonus Program, which was announced in July, offers creators a financial reward to post on Reels. Creator payouts ranged from $600 to $35,000. However, creators are expressing their confusion as to how payments and goals were determined.
One creator speaks of how their personalised threshold for getting paid up to $35,000 had skyrocketed from 58 million views to 359 million views. But, what does Meta have to say about this?
Meta told the Financial Times that the company was “testing Reels bonuses on Instagram and Facebook, which may cause payouts to fluctuate as pricing models are refined”.
