South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced its next-gen RAM designed to stimulate further growth throughout high-speed data service applications, including AI, 5G and you guessed it – the Metaverse.
According to Samsung, its next-gen RAM is promised to show some significant improvements to both speed and power usage. The company says that the LPDDR5X will have 1.3-times faster processing speeds compared to the previous-gen LPDDR5.
The LPDDR5X will be the industry’s first 14-nanometer based 16-gigabit Low Power Double Data Rate 5X DRAM.
As said by Samsung:
“In recent years, hyperconnected market segments such as AI, augmented reality (AR) and the metaverse, which rely on extremely fast large-scale data processing, have been rapidly expanding,” said SangJoon Hwang, Senior Vice President and Head of the DRAM Design Team at Samsung Electronics. “Our LPDDR5X will broaden the use of high-performance, low-power memory beyond smartphones and bring new capabilities to AI-based edge applications like servers and even automobiles.”
Designed to Boost Speed, Capacity and Power
The next-gen mobile DRAM was designed with the prospect of significantly boosting speed, capacity and power savings for future 5G applications.
The LPDDR5X DRAM will offer data processing speeds of up to 8.5 gigabits per second and use around 20% less power than LPDDR5 memory. Additionally, Samsung’s new 16-gigabit LPDDR5X chip will enable up to 64 GB per memory package, further accommodating the increasing demand for higher-capacity mobile DRAM worldwide.
Going forward, Samsung will begin collaboration with global chipset manufacturers to create a more viable framework for the ever-evolving world of digital reality, with the LPDDR5X serving as the heart of that movement.
