Instagram Launches Live Test of Longer Stories Videos

As great as Instagram Stories are, they aren’t exactly seamless in their transition across multiple frames. If those 15-second Stories were extended to say 60-seconds, would it translate Stories into a more digestible medium? We’re about to find out…

Instagram has officially launched a live test of 60-second videos in Stories. Video clips will no longer be split into 15-second segments and played across Stories frames.

As said by Instagram:

The ability to create longer Stories posts comes highly requested by our community. We’re excited to be testing 60-second Stories so that people can create and view Stories with fewer interruptions.”

In July, Instagram doubled the maximum length of Reels from 30 seconds to 60 seconds. In October, Instagram implemented a major change to its video interface, sunsetting the IGTV format and combining it all into a single format, dubbed Instagram Video. And now, live testing of 60-second stories has been initiated.

But will this provide a more seamless experience for users? Or were 15-second bit-sized Stories just right? There’s only one way to find out.
