According to a recently published report, the Metaverse may represent an over $1 trillion annual revenue market opportunity.
The report looked into the potential opportunity that will arise from the intersection of trends in gaming and lifestyle, and the infrastructure it will provide for digital worlds. Additionally, the report stated that the revenue from virtual gaming worlds could grow to $400 billion in 2025. The majority of this will be in-game spending.
“Our social lives and gaming are converging and creating a large, fast-growing virtual goods consumer economy. It is estimated that revenue from virtual gaming worlds could grow from ~$180 billion in 2020 to ~$400 billion in 2025.”
The report was authored by Grayscale’s Research Analyst Matt Maximo and Head of Research David Grider. They defined the metaverse as “interconnected, experiential, 3D virtual worlds where people located anywhere can socialize in real-time to form a persistent, user-owned, internet economy spanning the digital and physical worlds.”
