TikTok is reportedly working on bringing back the ability to see who viewed your profile in the app over the preceding 30 days.
As seen in the screenshots above shared by Matt Navarra, TikTok looks to be working on an opt-in functionality that would enable users to see who has viewed your TikTok profile. Obviously, users would also be able to see when you have viewed their profile when the feature is turned on.
TikTok used to house a feature where users had access to a listing of ‘profile views’. The purpose of this was to increase connections in the app by helping you find others to follow who may have shared interests.
However, TikTok removed this functionality in the beginning of last year due to various investigations into its data sharing processes. With a handful of high-profile TikTok stalkers causing real-life problems for TikTok stars, it was the right thing to do to not share certain information with just anyone.
All of this poses one simple question: What is the use of bringing back this feature? Sure, it’s interesting to see who took a glance at your profile, but if he/she didn’t reach out, or pose some sort of opportunity, then what is the point?
On a professional platform like LinkedIn, it’s a bit of a different story. But on a platform like TikTok, it makes very little sense.
Whether or not this option will be released remains unknown at this point.
