First released in beta last year, Search chips is a feature that makes searching for files in Google Drive a lot easier. It works by narrowing down your search results by location, file type, last date modified, people, tasks, and shared label.

As seen above, users can use search chips by entering a keyword in Google Drive’s search bar. Directly below the search bar, you will notice six different dropdown menus for search chips:
- Location
- File Type
- People
- Last Modified
- Title only
- To do
Choosing from these menu items will filter your search results accordingly.
Previously, Google had hid Drive’s limited collection of search filters within a dropdown tab that was built into the search bar. By placing these filters above the search results, it should make them simpler to navigate and manage.
