Microsoft has announced the integration of AI-powered image generation technology into its Bing search engine, Edge browser as well as a new Office app known as Microsoft Designer.
The integration of an AI image generator will enable users to create digital art from text input using DALL-E 2 image generator technology. All users have to do is type in an image description, and the image creator will do all the work and generate it for you.
Although the integration of an AI image generator into a search engine sounds a bit gimmicky, it will assist searchers with creating images that don’t exist yet – broadening the borders of the web.
However, in the light of responsible AI, Microsoft is exercising caution:
“It’s important, with early technologies like DALL∙E 2, to acknowledge that this is new and we expect it to continue to evolve and improve. We take our commitment to responsible AI seriously. To help prevent DALL∙E 2 from delivering inappropriate results across the Designer app and Image Creator, we are working together with our partner OpenAI, who developed DALL∙E 2, to take the necessary steps and will continue to evolve our approach.”
New ‘Designer’ Tool
Microsoft has previewed its new Office tool – Microsoft Designer, which aims to provide a simple way to to create content for promotions based solely on text prompts.
The new app will incorporate DALL-E to take basic text descriptions and turn them into pieces of art within seconds.
As said by Microsoft:
“With Designer, there’s no need to spend time building cards or social media posts from scratch, and you no longer need to search through thousands of pre-made templates. Designer invites you to start with an idea and let the AI do the heavy lifting. For example, with ’start from scratch’ within Designer, you can simply describe an image you want to see, and the app does the work for you to create something totally unique.”
Microsoft Designer is currently in limited beta, but eventually it will be made available to Microsoft 365 subscribers.
