As of Monday the 27th September, social networking platform TikTok has reached a new milestone of 1 billion monthly active users.
Despite the platform’s challenges of almost being banned in the United States and being sold entirely, TikTok has shown steady growth, positioning itself as a platform favourite for many users around the globe.
As said by TikTok:
“More than 1 billion people around the world now come to TikTok every month to be entertained as they learn, laugh, or discover something new. We’re honored to be a home for our immensely diverse community of families, small businesses, and creators who transform into our favorite stars.”
To celebrate this achievement, TikTok has posted the below clip:
The Most Downloaded App Worldwide in the 1st Quarter of 2020
TikTok’s popularity skyrocketed during the pandemic, earning it the label of the most-downloaded app in the world in the first quarter of 2020. To put things into perspective, TikTok saw some 315 million downloads in that quarter alone.
In January 2018, TikTok reported 54 million users. From then to now, the platform has earned the loyalty of ~950 million users. If you compare this to other platforms, like Instagram, where the userbase went from 100 million users to 1 billion in 66 months, TikTok’s 54 million users to 1 billion in just 45 months is a testament to its success.
1 billion users is a huge milestone, and officially makes TikTok on par with Instagram with overall users. This coupled with the platform’s exponential growth should be a key consideration in your marketing planning.
