According to a report from Bloomberg, Sony has internally lowered its production forecast for the current financial year due to trouble with logistics and the supply of components.
The company had originally predicted assembly of 16 million PlayStation 5’s between April 2021 and March 2022, however that figure has now dropped to around 15 million.
Although the downward revision is not exactly extensive, it indicates how tight the supply is likely to be for the foreseeable future. From Sony’s perspective, the decrease in production means that company will not meet their goal of selling 14.8 million PS5 consoles this financial year while still securing additional stock for the following year.

As the world grapples with the chip shortage, production has and will continue to dwindle for not just Sony but many other manufacturers; Nintendo has cut its Switch sales forecast by 1.5 million for the financial year and Valve’s Steam Deck for PC has been delayed by 2 months.
