Meta Releases Horizon Worlds: Social VR Experience

Meta has recently announced that it is bringing its VR social experience known as Horizon Worlds to all users who are 18 years and over. This will serve as a key introduction into the world of VR for those who wake up to find a headset wrapped underneath their Christmas tree.

What Is Horizon Worlds?

Horizon Worlds is a social experience where users can explore, create and play in the form of a virtual reality video game. It is also a space where users can simply hang out outside of the real world.

“With new worlds in the making, you can join together with people around the world in ever-expanding adventures and amazing experiences. Discover new places with friends, solve interactive puzzles or form teams to compete in action-packed games. You can even design worlds of your own or get to know other members of the community and be inspired by their creations. In Horizon Worlds, you’re not just a visitor. You’re part of what makes it great.”

Additionally, Meta announced that it will also be debuting Arena Clash, a new team-based 3v3 laster tag game inside Horizon Worlds.

As great as the release of the free-to-play Horizon Worlds is, it comes with two fragments of bad news: it will only be available in the US and Canada for now, and Meta will no longer provide support for the Oculus Quest 1 from January 12, 2022. So, if you’d like to Experience Horizon Worlds, you’d both have to have a new Quest headset and be situated within the US.
