WhatsApp Adds Option to Preview Voice Notes Before Sending

WhatsApp voice notes are great, and have changed the way we communicate with each other. During the isolated times of lockdown, sending a friend or family member a voice message ever so slightly narrowed the distance gap.

But, not being able to preview voice messages meant that you had no idea how the message sounded until it was already delivered. As of yesterday, WhatsApp has decided to eliminate that problem by enabling users to preview their voice messages before they send them.

A simple, but extremely handy addition.

Since 2013, WhatsApp voice messages have become one of the platform’s most popular features worldwide, redefining the way that people communicate via smartphones. Sure, a message is great but if you’re multitasking there is nothing more effective than sending a quick voice message.

As said by WhatsApp:

‘They bring you closer to friends and family than a text message and unlike a call, give you the freedom to message – and for them to listen – when it’s most convenient. They are also the easiest and quickest way to send a message when you really want to get an emotion across, time is tight, or you’re juggling other tasks, like holding a baby or carrying shopping/groceries’

Up until now, voice messages underwent a two-stage process: record and deliver, whether they contained errors or not.

Thankfully, Meta understood that there’s a bit of perfectionist in each of us, and having the ability to listen to your voice note before you send it is a fantastic feature to add.

How to listen to WhatsApp Voice Notes Before Sending

To access this new feature, you need not do anything special. All you need to do is open an individual or group chat and touch the familiar voice note microphone in the bottom right corner. Slide it up as per usual to lock hands-free record and start speaking. Once you’ve finished recording your voice note, tap Stop. Next, tap ‘Play’ to listen to your recording.

You can also tap on any part of the recording to play it from that specific timestamp. Pretty neat, if we don’t say so ourselves.
